BROWNSVILLE, Tenn.—For about an hour last night leaders described/mulled/discussed Haywood County government’s proposed 2017/2018 spending package. There were no comments that stirred controversy, even though the proposal includes the county’s third tax increase in as many years.
Mayor Franklin Smith hosted the public hearing at the county courthouse.
If the budget passes—and county commissioners are expected to be asked to consider it Monday—property taxpayers can expect their tax rate to increase by 22.5-cents.
The county commission meets Monday night at 6pm.
